BIBLIOGRAPHY

When you conduct research, it's essential that you record the sources from which you've obtained your information.  It's a requirement for History Day projects, and it's a requirement for all research projects!

The National History Day In Minnesota website has two helpful guides for creating bibliographies and annotations.

Creating Citations for Your Bibliography

There are many tools to help you create your bibliography.  EasyBib can help you develop citations for the resources you've used in your research. NoodleBib Express is another that can help you create proper citations for your bibliography.  Or maybe you have a tool that you use at your school.

The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) is another great resource for learning how to create correct citations for your research. OWL has information for both APA and MLA citation styles.

Article Databases & Citations

In addition to tools such as EasyBib, NoodleBib Express, and OWL, many of the article databases that you've used to find your information provide formatted citations.  For instance, article databases will often list the citation at the bottom of the article, image, or audio/video file or generate a citation for the item on demand by providing a "cite" button.

What's Next?

If you've completed all 6 sections of the tutorial, then you've made it through the research process.

What you've learned in this tutorial can help guide your research practices not only for History Day but also for research projects you'll encounter in other classes throughout middle school, high school, college, and the workplace.

Use the History Day Research Notes as a template for note taking on other research projects.  When you have questions about your research, ask your teacher and school librarian. They are there to help you succeed!
